Nvidia announces GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards, starting at $549

After months of rumors, Nvidia debuted its newest technology of desktop and laptop computer graphics playing cards at CES 2025. The RTX 50-series is the quickest lineup of GPUs Nvidia has developed. Beginning with its RTX 5070, Nvidia claims it delivers the equal efficiency to the earlier technology’s high mannequin, the RTX 4090, at simply $549 as a substitute of the 4090’s $1,599. Transferring on up, the RTX 5070 Ti will price $749, $999 for the RTX 5080, and $1,999 for the RTX 5090. All of those playing cards might be out there beginning later this month.

The RTX 50-series marks the leap to GDDR7 video reminiscence (VRAM), which is each extra highly effective and energy environment friendly than the GDDR6x utilized in most RTX 40-series playing cards. Chief among the many new options within the RTX 50-series playing cards — except for their horsepower improve — is DLSS 4. It builds on Nvidia’s earlier iterations, all of which goal to extend gaming efficiency whereas making a collection of visible trade-offs (i.e. reducing the render decision, utilizing AI to generate new frames to make video games run smoother) which are turning into increasingly more tough to identify because the tech improves. Nvidia touts that DLSS 4 faucets into AI much more — producing 3 frames with educated AI for each 1 rendered on the GPU — to permit video games to look higher and run sooner. Leaning so closely on Tensor AI cores on the GPU is a part of what makes Nvidia’s RTX 50-series extra environment friendly, so says Nvidia.
